Setting goals is a concept most parents want to teach to their children.  It’s helping your children realize that they can make their own dreams come true.  Here are some New Year’s resolution ideas for all you parents to get your children started with things they can accomplish from a very early age.

New Year’s Resolutions for Kids

  • I will keep myself clean.  I will brush my teeth without being told.  I will wash my hands before I eat anything.  I will cover my mouth if I sneeze or cough.
  • I will eat healthy meals.  I will choose fruits and vegetables first, and limit things with sugar in them. My health will be the benefit.
  • I will think like an adult when I am on the computer.  I will not give out private information like my full name, my address, my phone number.  I will not do anything online that I would not do if my parents were over my shoulder. My parents set internet safety rules and I will govern myself according to them.
  • I will look for opportunities to help my community.  If I see trash on the ground, I will pick it up.  If I see someone who is in need, I will talk to my parents about what can be done to help them. If there is a child at school without a lunch, I will share mine. I will look for volunteer jobs in my neighborhood.
  • I will look for ways to help around the house.  I will put my younger brother’s and sister’s toys in the toy box.  I will help wash their hands before meals.  I will empty the trash without being asked. I will tidy up the bathroom – hanging up the towels, putting the clothes in the hamper – before I turn off the light.
  • I will rely on myself to keep me happy and occupied.  If I am bored, I will not inflict that on anyone else.  I will find something to do myself. I will find some new thing to learn or some new hobby to do and then I will begin.
  • I will look for one way to do something nice for each person in my family each day. I don’t have to talk about it; I just have to do it.  Extra hugs for the baby; putting the school books in order for the next morning; wiping the baby’s nose; brushing my dad’s shoes; taking all the trash out of the car.  I can find lots of ways to contribute to my family that don’t involve money.
  • I will save some of all the money I receive.  I will not spend every cent of it on what I might want at that moment.  I will put some aside for later use.

Your children will be establishing great new habits if you encourage these types of New Year’s Resolutions ideas. And not one of them has a cost involved.

Enjoy helping your children discover the value of these making New Year’s resolutions for kids.
