Some of the most simple challenges in our lives can create a slow, unobtrusive but persistent nudging that flows along as we live our lives. I’m talking here about aches and pains in our bodies. You might try some simple home health remedies first before just suffering through it.

I’d like to offer one spiritual remedy that might work as a universal panacea for all these aches and pains. That would be to simply sit quietly and command your body to feel normal. Being healthy is our norm. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t work so hard to return to it, would we? Just tell yourself that you can disappear any ache or pain by sending along the corrected thought to the pertinent place on your body. It’s your thinking that is in charge, after all.

If you are not successful in working that technique, please remember that “Practice makes perfect.” In the meantime, perhaps some of these old tried and true home health remedies might help you out.

Bone loss. Calcium is the culprit here. Make a meat broth with bones, and add a touch of vinegar to the broth to encourage the bones to release their calcium. Homemade broth is equal to the calcium in milk and can help prevent osteoporosis.

Cough and Cold. Lemon and honey in warm water have often provided relief.

Cramping. Insufficient calcium is generally the problem behind cramps. Eating foods high in calcium (greens, broccoli, or minimal fat dairy products) can help. Or, take a calcium supplement.

Diarrhea. Room temperature Coca Cola has been found useful. Also try yoghurt and scraped, fresh apple.

Earache. Two tips: put a few drops of gin in the offending ear. Or, put a few drops of sweet oil in. Tilt your head for a few moments so it stays in place.

Fevers. High temperatures can be reduced by placing cool cloths on the extremities and the forehead. Change the cloths frequently to keep them cool. A drink made by soaking raisins and fresh ginger can also help bring the temperature down.

Headaches. One of the most common aches and pains, a wet cloth around your neck can help to relieve headaches.

Mosquito Bites. Wet the area with a little water and sprinkle meat tenderizer on the area. Or make a weak solution with water and tenderizer and apply to the spot.

Nosebleed. Vitamin C and zinc keep tissues and blood vessels in tip top condition. Vegetables, citrus fruits and potatoes are rich sources of vitamin C. For zinc filled foods, try whole wheat breads or pasta, brown rice, meats and fish.

Scars. Scaring is formed by collagen accumulating under the skin. Gently rub the scar as it’s healing to break up the collagen.

Stomach pain. A glass of unflavored soda water might help. You can also experiment with this solution: lemon juice, rock salt and warm water. Try this throughout the day and mix it to your own taste preferences.
