Tuesday, Feb 1, 2011Self Acceptance – The Key To Individuality

Self love and self acceptance are parallel virtues. One of the greatest accomplishments you can make in your life is to discover the many ways you can love, accept and applaud your Self.

Every one of us is unique. Every one of us has eccentricities. We try to keep others from finding out about our eccentricities because we label them quirky, unacceptable, and outside-the-norm. I am convinced that every one of us lives outside of the norm; we simply don’t share these traits publically.

Self acceptance would be proud of these traits. Self acceptance would not care what any others thought about these traits. Self acceptance would not hide these traits, but would applaud and celebrate them.

If these traits are more black than rainbow-colored, getting them out into the open with a few trusted individuals will help you accomplish the self-correction so necessary to move away from discomfort. If these traits are more colorful than black, party!

You are not one of the same in a pack. You are a unique jewel, rare in all that you bring with you. Celebrate that uniqueness. Give up on negative judgment. Don’t try to fit in. Your individuality is one of the greatest possessions you have. Honor it. Trust it. Revel in it. Share is without reserve. Honor the imagination within you that spurs your individuality in a specific direction. Are you normally a conservative dresser? Wear flamboyant colors! Would you like to drive a zany car? Get a wild paint job! Is there singing going on inside of you? Let it out at work. Sing while you send faxes! Do you crave adventure? Take up sky diving!

You may have been suppressing your individuality for some time now. What has stopped you from letting your uniqueness out into the open? How can you praise and display your peculiarities this week? You and I both know they are in there, and we know how long you have been suppressing them. Resolve this week to let at least one of them out. I know you have the courage unfolded to love yourself enough to let this happen.

We only have one short period of time to be here on earth. Why dull that glorious experience down by letting those who disapprove direct our lives? I like to think of myself as a firecracker that sends out bright sparks once in a while. If you’ll let yourself go, you will discover all those people in your life who will love your lack of inhibition. There is simply no one else on this earth quite like you. It’s okay to be all that you are. This is a way of accomplishing self love and self acceptance, of honoring your individuality.

“It is those who concentrate on but one thing at a time who advance in this world. The great man or woman is the one who never steps outside his or her specialty or foolishly dissipates his or her individuality.” ~ Anonymous
