Wednesday, May 26, 2010The Key To Successful Affirmations

This is a Wonderful Life
Change Your Habits
Put Your Thoughts in Motion
Meditate with Passion

Successful affirmations are statements done in the right way. Affirmations are simply words affirming that the dreams you have for your one, big, wonderful life will, in fact, come true – or not.  Affirmations that come out of your mouth without much thought are a description of the things in which you believe.

  • “This path is filled with rocks.  I’m likely to fall down.”
  • “My mother always said I’d marry a rich man.”
  • “I cannot for the life of me, picture myself with a college diploma.”
  • “I will only drive a Volvo because they are the safest car.”
  • “My business is really suffering from this recession.”

Your daily affirmations have become habitual.  From the day you first thought them up, you’ve repeated them often inside your mind.  This isn’t always obvious, but if you’d give it some thought, I think you’ll recognize how you’ve made your beliefs habitual.  Don’t despair.  Habits can be changed.

You can use positive affirmations to change your belief habits, and when you make them habitual, you’ll experience their truth!

All affirmations have an emotional charge – the old ones and the new ones you’re putting into their place.  This emotional charge is important.  Shakespeare said “As a man thinketh in his heart….” Emotional charge comes from your heart, so when you say or think your affirmations, give them the emotional charge of knowing with absolute conviction they are true for you.

Affirmations that are successful have three things in common: they are always about right NOW; they are always about something positive; and they are always short and sweet. Phineas Quimby had a powerful affirmation that still sings to me, and I first heard it over 30 years ago:  “If it’s going to be, it’s up to me.”  Can you see the NOW, the positive and the short and sweet in it?

If you want successful affirmations, the rules that govern this success are the same as for meditation:

  • Set aside several periods of time daily to repeat the words. Remember, you’re training your mind with these new truths.
  • As you repeat the words, work to have a strong feeling of conviction that they are true of you right now, not at some point in the future.
  • Persevere!  Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor were the beliefs you’re working to replace.  Use your dedication to continue until you see the results in your life.

The only thing remaining is for you to tap into what your desires are.  What do you really want in your life?  Won’t you take a few moments and create some positve affirmations for yourself?

Daily affirmations done with passion and in present tense can be truly successful affirmations.

“Affirmations are like prescriptions for certain aspects of yourself you want to change.” ~ Jerry Frankhauser

“An affirmation is a strong, positive statement that something is already so.” ~    Shakti Gawain
