Follow Your Dreams
In this third of a series of six articles, we explain how you need to dream big to become the change you wish to see in your life. You will learn ways to improve so that you can follow your dream to success.
Step Three - Dream Big To Create The Change
Once you have Observed and Analyzed the way you currently think about your self, about your work, about your life, you are armed with a great deal of information that will help you move to the next step: deciding what you want to change in your life and how you want to create the dream.
Have you ever heard the saying “The whole world is your oyster?” What it means metaphorically is that you have the whole of life to choose from. There are no limits to the horizons you see. There is nothing out there that you cannot manifest yourself. This is the stage where you are strongly encouraged to dream BIG.
Because you want big success for yourself, you can begin to craft a plan that will create these successes for yourself. You can begin Huge and work backwards to create the smaller steps, or you can begin just one step Bigger with a focus of ending up at the Huge dream. Either way, you will be using your powers of observation and analysis when you create the dream, because, sure enough, if you are anything like I was when I began to craft my dreams, fears and doubts will arise inside your mind.
Write your dream down. Keep it in a place that is safe from prying eyes and maybe negative remarks. You don’t need any negativity coming at you. Make the dream as big as you can comfortably, emotionally embrace right now. Once you achieve this first dream, you can always create a bigger one.
For this third step in Becoming the Change you wish to see in your life, you want to create goals that are wide enough and broad enough to entrance your mind with the joy of their fulfillment. You don’t need to see how to take those steps right now. For right now, all you need is a big universal dream. You only have this one life. Be courageous to think that “Yes, the “I” that I am right now is entitled to dream big. I’m creating the life that I want, that I’ve always dreamed of. I am a possibility thinker.”
No dream is too big. There are no limitations that will be sent back to you from Life. You will get no messages that say “Nope. You’re asking too much.” You’ll never hear “You want to do WHAT?” and have the entire universe clutching it’s belly and laughing over your big dreams. There is only one limitation that could possibly happen. You might think “I can’t.” You are the only thing that can get in the way of you fulfilling the dreams you dream.
Try to picture Christopher Columbus standing before the Queen of Spain and saying “Well, if you’ll give me the money, I’m pretty sure I can find another continent.” No, first he observed; then he analyzed; and then he went and assured her that he could find the new continent.
Do you think Christopher Columbus knew every single step he’d have to take to accomplish his dream? Do you think Christopher Columbus had some fears and doubts he’d have to fight like the demons they are along the way? Do you think he was filled with absolute confidence when he began? Do you think he ever had to provide courageous words for his sailors? Christopher Columbus was a human being just like you and me. He had the same mind you and I have.
So please take a look at your Big Dream. Does it involve your highest values about life? Is it a mission that is worthy of your hard work and persistence? Being able to dream big can supercharge your momentum and you deserve nothing less.
In the musical South Pacific by Rodgers and Hammerstein, there is a wonderful lyric:
“You’ve got to have a dream. If you don’t have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true?”
Follow your dream. It will lead you along to the steps that are required so that you can become the change in your life, improve it, and create the success you’ve always dreamed of.
