We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world. ~ Gautama Buddha
Our minds are truly one of our most wonderful commodities. We have unfolded so much about ourselves from that initial “I am alive” thought. We have discovered a world of wonders. We have learned about people and how to interface with them. We have learned about our faculties and our abilities and our virtues….or the lack of them. If we are in business, we have learned how to have a business mind set.
We have gone through the process of formalized schooling and have stayed very busy inside our minds with these efforts. We have fostered special relationships and entered into marriage with our special someone. We have both thought about what a family should be; how a home ought to be arranged; how many children should be created and raised.
We have had busy, busy minds all of our lives considering one thing or another continuously. Why is it important to notice this? Our minds have been creating business mind maps from the beginning; working silently and invisibly in the background, but creating none the less.
We can point and focus the subjects we entertain, and our creative minds will express this mental exercise out into our lives wherever we point and focus them. If you want to lose weight, thinking about it along with whatever props you choose, will help you lose weight. Thinking about finding a new best friend will create the situation where your new best friend can show up. Thinking about finding food for lunch will ultimately results with a plate of food in front of you. It’s all being driven by your thinking.
So if you want more busyness in your business, begin to think about your business mind set. Think about what processes in your business mind map you could improve on. Think about what you might do differently that will serve your clients better. Think about what skills your employees have that might be used in a different manner, in a different position, for a different purpose. What are the parts of your business that you don’t enjoy doing? Let’s say it’s about accounting. Well, find a way to get that task off your To-Do list so you can devote your attention to what you do best. Hire someone else to do it. They probably love accounting!
If your business is not profitable, is not busy, is not enjoyable, you would be well served to look at how you think about your business. Do you believe your competitors are better at it than you are? This is what you’ll experience. Do you believe there is not enough to go around? This is what you’ll experience. Do you think you’re tired of doing it? You’ll constantly be tired of doing it. Your mind and its thinking is generating whatever you entertain in there!
So how can you change your business? Begin to think different thoughts about it. Get busy finding ways to do things more efficiently. Discover a new business mind set to bring a sense of freshness to dreary tasks. Find people who are experts in business and take them to lunch so you can pick their brains and create a new business mind map. Have a meeting with your employees and ask them for ways to change. They’re keenly insightful and can bring a lot to the table if you’ll listen.
“Make a new plan, Stan” is what Simon and Garfunkel said in their song. And if you want to have a more profitable business, it begins in your mind. Get your business mind set busy, busy, busy making improvements; seeing new avenues; finding new ways to make your customers happy.
There is more to life than increasing its speed. ~ Mahatma Gandhi
